How Our Numbers Work

Some of Searvia’s numbers are measured, others are estimated. This page explains where each one comes from, how it is calculated and how far you can trust it.

  • Measured

Rankings, store pages, reviews and AI answers, collected as users see them.

  • Official

Apple’s popularity scores and your own data from connected accounts.

  • Estimated

App revenue and downloads, keyword difficulty and fallback popularity, always shown with their uncertainty.

01

App Revenue and Download Estimates

Every day Searvia records the App Store top grossing and top free charts, overall and in 25 categories, in 10 countries: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Turkey, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain. That is the only input: Apple’s public chart positions.

From Rank to Value

A curve turns a chart position into a daily value. In the United States, number one in top grossing is set at about $3.8M a day in gross revenue, and number one in top free at about 150K downloads a day. The curve is flatter across the top 20, where the leaders earn similar amounts, and falls faster below.

As a check, the top 1,000 grossing positions in the United States add up to about $90 million a day, in line with public estimates of total App Store consumer spending there.

Countries and Categories

Other countries use the same curve, scaled by the size of their market compared with the United States. Category charts are scaled each day from the apps that appear in both a category chart and the overall chart; an app that is only in a category chart gets its value from that scale.

Totals and Ranges

Daily values add up to 30- and 90-day totals for each country and for all countries together. Days without chart data are filled in proportionally.

Every estimate is shown with a range. For apps that reached the top 50, the range runs from ×0.5 to ×2 the estimate; for the rest, from ×0.33 to ×3.

Limits

  • Revenue is gross consumer spending, before Apple’s commission, taxes and refunds.
  • Only apps in the top 100 of an overall or category chart in one of these countries are estimated.
  • Google Play revenue is not estimated.
  • Visitors see a rough bracket; signed-in users, including on the free plan, see the estimate and each country.

Calibration

The curve and country factors start from public benchmarks. We are calibrating them against the real App Store Connect sales of apps whose owners connected their accounts. Results will appear here, with the number of apps and the median error, once there is enough data.

02

Keyword Popularity

For the App Store, the best signal is Apple’s own search popularity score from Apple Ads, on a scale of 5 to 100. Searvia reads it through Apple Ads, from its own connection or yours, and labels it as Apple’s.

Apple currently returns its minimum score, 5, for many keywords. When that happens, Searvia ranks those keywords among themselves with its own estimate but keeps them below 30, under the range Apple publishes.

Without an Apple score, popularity is estimated from the size of the apps on the first page (their median review count) and the number of results. Estimates are shown with a wider range and marked as estimates.

03

Keyword Difficulty

Difficulty (0–100) says how hard it is to reach the first page for a keyword, from the top 10 results. Every score shows its parts:

LeadersReview counts of the top three apps, weighted by position.35%
DepthMedian review count of the rest of the first page.20%
TargetingShare of the top 10 that have every word of the keyword in their title.20%
MaturityHow long the ranking apps have been on the store, when the release date is known.10%
ActivityShare of the ranking apps updated in the last 60 days, when known.10%
SatisfactionAverage rating of the ranking apps.5%

A part without data is left out and its weight is shared among the others. The score is lowered when the first page is filled with loosely related apps, or when there are fewer than 10 results.

04

Rankings

App Store and Google Play rankings come from the stores’ search results as a phone in that country sees them, collected through DataForSEO. We do not use Apple’s public search API for rankings, because its order often differs from what users see on a device.

Google rankings come from live Google results for the country, language and device you choose, also through DataForSEO. Maps rankings are checked at each point of a grid around the business.

New keywords are checked within minutes, then every day on paid plans and every week on the free plan.

Your own data comes from official APIs when you connect them: App Store Connect, Google Play Console, Apple Ads, Search Console, Google Analytics, Bing Webmaster Tools, RevenueCat and Adapty.

05

AI Visibility

Searvia asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude your questions with web search turned on, as a user would. The free plan uses Perplexity.

For each answer we record whether your brand is mentioned, whether your site is cited, where you sit in the list of recommendations, the tone and the competitors named. Share of voice compares your mentions with theirs.

AI answers change from run to run and from user to user. One answer is a sample, so Searvia checks every week and shows the trend.

Questions

No. They are estimates from public chart positions. Use them to compare apps and spot trends, and read every figure together with its range.

Before. Estimates are gross consumer spending, before Apple’s commission, taxes and refunds.

Searvia’s estimates are built from App Store top grossing and free charts. Google Play rankings and keywords are tracked, but its revenue is not estimated.

Connect App Store Connect, RevenueCat or Adapty. Your dashboard then shows your actual revenue and downloads instead of estimates.

Charts are recorded every day. Keyword rankings are checked daily on paid plans and weekly on the free plan; AI answers are checked every week.
